Review Week 9
Compare and contrast vector graphics and pixel images.
- Vector graphics are defined by mathematical equations of line, shapes, and curves.
- Images with pixels have mini picture element that use continuous tone images where all variations of color are represented

Why must designers pay close attention to how color is utilized within a composition?
-The colors in a design can affect how a composition is viewed and what colors stand out to viewer.
-The colors in a design can affect how a composition is viewed and what colors stand out to viewer.
Why is the color wheel an important tool for graphic designers?
- The color wheel gives you different types of colors to use so you can put the right colors in the right composition.

-Equal parts of all colors in visible light
How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
-The color that we see is reflected toward us and the rest of the lights are absorbed by the object
What is a glass prism?

spectrum
What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?
- Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet
Describe hue?
- The color itself
When does white light occur?
- When all the wavelengths are reflected back to your eye
When does black light occur?
- When no light is reflected to your eye
How color is perceived depends on what?

What are secondary colors? Name them?
- Orange, green, and violet,
What are tertiary colors? Name them?
- Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet
What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
- Colors of very low saturation and are created by mixing complementary colors
How can a neutral color help a design?
- They help put the focus on other colors or serve tone down colors
What are complementary colors? Name them?
- Colors positioned opposite of each other on the color wheel
Red and green, orange and blue, yellow and violet

Describe a monochromatic color scheme?
- It uses tints and shades of one color
- It uses tints and shades of one color
Describe an analogous color scheme?
- It uses three colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel
- It uses three colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel
Describe a complementary color scheme?
- It uses to colors that are opposite to each other on the color wheel
- It uses to colors that are opposite to each other on the color wheel
Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
- It uses one color and two adjacent colors to its compliment
- It uses one color and two adjacent colors to its compliment
Describe a triadic color scheme?
- It uses three colors equally spaced around the color wheel
- It uses three colors equally spaced around the color wheel
What colors are considered to be warm colors?
- Yellows, oranges, and reds
- Yellows, oranges, and reds
Describe a warm color scheme?
- They are vivid in nature; they express aggression, excitement, and danger; bold and energetic
- They are vivid in nature; they express aggression, excitement, and danger; bold and energetic
What colors are considered to be cool colors?
- Greens, blues, and violets
- Greens, blues, and violets
Describe a cool color scheme?
- They smoothing in nature; they express passiveness, comforting, and nurturing; gives an expression of calm
- They smoothing in nature; they express passiveness, comforting, and nurturing; gives an expression of calm
Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?

Review Week 3
What is OSHA? What do the letters stand for?
-OSHA is to protect computer users and keep them healthy and good while they work. The letters stand for Occupational Safety and Health Association
How can graphic designers effectively communicate? In your own words, explain the communication process.
-They can communicate with images and pictures dealing with lines and shapes.
Understanding the history, culture and movements of fine and graphic arts will make you a better producer of visual messages. Why?
- You can get a good idea of what to create with your imagination knowing the different concepts of graphic arts
Podcast #1 Elements of Design
What does it take to create good graphic design?
- It requires an understanding of the elements and principles of design
What is the difference between elements and principles?
-Elements are the things in design, principle is the way these things are
Name the six (6) elements of design.
-Line, shape or form, space, texture, value, and color
What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with other lines or shapes?
-Readability, appearance and message of the design
Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
-Horizontal lines, because it lies down
Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
-Loftiness, because they have a downward direction
What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
-Diagonal lines, because the lines are moving somewhere
Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
-Comfort, safety, and relaxation because they turn
These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
-Deep, acute curves, because it is a great turn
What element defines a specific area of space?
-Shapes
What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
